This shows us as a US Sailing associated club, but What do we have that shows us as an official Yacht Club?   Need to use our recipricol privileges at a club over Memorial Weekend.   ;-)
Michael McKinsey

@Captain Bob Solliday We do not have reciprocal privileges with anybody (we have no facilities to reciprocate anything with).  We are a club and we sail yachts - but we are technically a fleet not a yacht club.  😁

As membership chair, what is the easiest way/link for folks to click on and join the club.  I need something simple to send folks so they know the Tuesday night racing schedule and club affiliation.  Also, what name do we want at Paypal, venmo, etc.  to make it simple.  ie Visit the site to read about us and join.  Then pay electronically or bring a check.  Also, also, who is on the bank account with the username and password to set up the link to deposit the funds in the bank?
Michael McKinsey

@Captain Bob Solliday there is  no way to join the club online or make any kind of electronic payment currently.  I am not sure there needs to be, they can pay when they show up.

To join the club they can just say they are a member and then get a $20 payment to Joe (or $50 if they want to prepay for the season).  Often they send me an email, I put them in the race and they show up and pay after the race when we get together, or show up after one of the races and sign up for the next week.  Having an automated form online is not really necessary but if you want to set that up feel free and I can integrate that here on the site somewhere.  I am researching setting up something on regattanetwork to sign up for the races but so far that is not for sure going to be possible and has some fees we may not want to pay (we collect $1 per race so there is not a lot of room for fees).

@joe Joe is the person with the access to the bank account, if you want to set up some kind of electronic payment you can work on that, however that has not been an option for the last couple of years, Vic had a PayPal account set up but I think it was his personal account.

The schedule is in the NOR the race is every Tuesday from the time change until it changes back.

mdrvmf.org is where people can go to get information.  I don't know what "something simple to send" means exactly,  but feel free to make something if you need something other than what is available here.

I think the link to the website is probably all people need to get whatever information is available.  They can register for an account if they want to get email updates when I tag everyone in an announcement or just go to the website to check whenever they want to see the latest information.

Meeting Notes
2/6/18
Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet

Mike Diamond called the meeting to order at 6:19 at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club (PMYC).  Thanks to Mike McKinsey who, as a member of PMYC arranged for us to meet there. Thanks to Mike D for getting the food for the dinner.

1.    The notes from the last meeting were read and approved.
2.    The Treasury report was that the fleet has $2002.05 in the bank account.  The treasurer also has $205.00 in cash not deposited yet.  The cash is from five people paying $5.00 for dinner and six people paying the 2018 fleet dues and two people paying race fees for 30 races.  The cost of the chicken etc. for dinner was $43.79 which was charged to the fleet credit card.
3.    Race Report.  No races yet.  We start on March 13 with the beginning of daylight savings time.  Mike McKinsey, our race chair, has been doing a lot of work getting ready for the racing season.  He has prepared a Notice of Race (the first one for the Vic Smith TNT races) and will put it on the web site (mdrvmf.com).  Race Instructions will go out before each of he race series.
4.    Business, old and new.

At the election in October, Steve Klitzky and Mike Diamond agreed to be co Commodores for 2018.  Mike turned the gavel over to Steve, who ran the meeting.   There are two inactive chairs.  The Cruise Chair and the Membership Chair.  Bob Solliday volunteered to be the Membership chair for 2018.  Thanks Bob.

While we are on the subject of membership, fourteen people have paid their fleet dues for 2018.  I expect that more will join after the racing gets started.

Now, some important things.  Mike McKinsey has become an official race officer for US Sailing.  He proposed that the fleet join US Sailing for a yearly fee of $200.  By doing so we will be able to publicize our races on the US Sailing calendar and will have insurance to cover the race committees for the races if a problem comes up.  A vote was called for and it was passed that we join.

Mike is a member of PMYC and has arranged for our meetings there.  The Commodore of PMYC has suggested to Mike that we have our Tuesday after race get together at PMYC.  This would be instead of at the Shack.  We can bring in our own food and order drinks at their bar.  Mike said he is willing to do the food and charge for whatever it costs (PMYC has a full kitchen and BBQ’s).   Steve called for a vote and it was passed.

Mike briefly discussed the handicap system for next year.  The adjustment to handicaps will be different this year for the A and B classes.  He is working on the details and will explain them to the fleet when he is finished.  The goal is to make it as fair as possible and allow every one to have a chance to trophy.
5.    Meeting was adjourned at 7:06.

MDRVMF Fleet Meeting Tuesday February 6 - 6pm at PMYC

Hello all Tuesday racers.  MDRVMF will be having a fleet meeting at PMYC on Tuesday February 6th at 6pm.

As the Race Chair I will be going over the adjustments to the handicap system and the notice of race for the races next season, as well as discussing an offer PMYC is making to allow us to meet after the race every week at PMYC.  I am also going to be attempting to gain approval for MDRVMF to join US sailing for our upcoming season.  Hope to see you there!

MDRVMF Christmas Party December 3rd 6:00pm Fu's Palace

The Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet

Hi All Tuesday Night Racers!

Here is the info on the VSTNT dinner (forwarded along from Joe Cowan @joe ).  It will be held on December 3rd at 6PM.  It is at Fu's Palace.  Click the link below for a map of its location.

Please RSVP to Commodore Mike Diamond with the number of people you will be bringing.  The restaurant needs to know to set up properly.  Please RSVP before November 30th.

Mike's email for RSVP is:

faucetbiz@sbcglobal.net

It is a family style Chinese dinner.  Cost is $5.00 per person, the Fleet picks up the rest of the cost out of the Fleet dues.  You do not have to be a member of the fleet to attend.  Crew on the Tuesday night boats are especially invited.  Awards for the year will be presented.  Also there is a blind gift exchange.  If you want to participate bring a wrapped gift under $20.00.  If you do not want to participate that is fine too.  The participants are given a number and a drawing is held.  If your number is picked, you choose a gift and have to open it to show the rest of the people what it is OR you pick an opened gift from someone else and that person has to pick another one.  A gift can be taken only 3 times and then it is frozen and can not be taken again.  The popular ones usually get frozen quickly.

The trophies are being made by Adolf Liebe of Might as Well.  He does excellent wood work.  I got a candy dish last year.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Meeting Notes

10/10/17

Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet

Mike Diamond called the meeting to order at 8:02 at the PMYC.  Thanks to Mike McKinsey who, as a member of PMYC arranged for us to meet there. Thanks to Mike D for getting the food for the dinner.  As a treasurers note, the money collected for dinner came up short of the cost again.  We will have to increase the dinner to $5 next year.  The attendance was very small, perhaps due to the late notice of the meeting.

1.  The notes from the last meeting were read and approved.

2.  The Treasury report was that the fleet has $2288.48 in the bank account.  The treasurer also has $23.00 in cash not deposited yet.

3.  Race Report.  Three more races in Series 7.  Cross Fire is the committee boat for this series.  This is the last series for this year.

4.  Business, old and new.

It was reaffirmed that the December party will be held at Fu’s Palace on December 3rd at 6:00pm.  Format will be the same as in the past years.  If anyone needs more information, contact Mike Diamond or Joe Cowan.

Election of new officers was discussed.  Steve Klitzky and Mike Diamond have agreed to be co Commodores for 2018.  Mike McKinsey is Vice Commodore. Mike McKinsey will also be the Race Chair for 2018.  Adolf Liebe has volunteered to be Trophy Chair for 2018.  Joe Cowan offered to step down from the Secretary and Treasurers positions but no one in attendance wanted the jobs.  The offer is still open to anyone interested.  Mike McKinsey will continue as Web Master.  There are two inactive chairs.  The Cruise Chair and the Membership Chair.  Since they were inactive in 2017, perhaps they are not needed.  However, if anyone is interested please contact Mike D or Steve K.

The next business meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 16th at PMYC.

5.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:27.

UPDATE 3:  In tenths reported a time at the wrong finish line, then reported a second time and mentioned they had missed a buoy.  We have adjusted their time to some estimate and they have been adjusted to last place with 1 point for the race.

UPDATE 2: Our discussion of ratings has prompted a review of the ratings, most importantly Andiamo was found to have been racing at the wrong rating and the correction has caused a change in the order of finishes for this race in the A class (Andiamo won and is leading the A class for the series).  Please download the results again to get the most recent version.  I also updated handicaps for boats in the B fleet which did not change the outcome but changed some of the adjusted handicaps for next week.

UPDATE:  I inverted a couple of numbers in Sea Bear's time - corrections have been made it changed the outcome for Class A but did not change any of the handicaps for next week.

Nice wind tonight - a quick run around the cool slalom course.  Thanks Crossfire for hosting the series.  Was an incredible sunset!

@Gerald Sobel  I just use the numbers we get from PHRF - the issue of if your boat is rated fairly is an entirely different subject.  I imagine if you put new sails on your boat and painted the bottom it would go faster, but that would not change your PHRF (it made us go faster when we did that).  Handicap racing is imperfect, no matter what system we use someone will be better off than with another one, I am happy to explain why we do what we do for our race results, but why PHRF is rating your boat at one rating or another is above my pay grade.

The bi monthly fleet meeting will be held at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club on Tuesday October 10th after the VSTNT race.  Meeting time will be around 8:00 or as soon as the racers get in.  Sorry for the late notice.

Dinner will be Pizza.  Cost will be $4. and we will see if that covers it.  If not, we may have to increase it next year.

This is the last meeting before the Holiday party in December.

We need to elect officers for the fleet.  It would be great if some of you youngsters (less than 80 years old) would be willing to take over the positions.  I am more than willing to hand over the Treasurer and Secretary positions.

Hope to see you there.

We are having some issues at the starts so I thought I would point out some important rules about the start.

Leeward boats coming up to the start are not required to give any room to windward boats, if a boat is able to come up to the starting mark and push you above the mark you must give way to the boat, and tack around to make your start, you cannot "barge" into the start by demanding room in order to start.  If there are other boats above you that are also barging into the start, you must call for them to move up or tack as well.  You are not entitled to keep a boat from coming up to the start, and you are not entitled to mark room at the start.  If your actions require a leeward boat to sail lower in order to avoid hitting you, you have committed a foul and must take two penalty turns as soon as possible (you must keep clear of all boats while making the penalty turns).

Here is an image and some text to clarify the rules at the start:

VSTNT Races Series 6 Race 5 Results

The Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet

We had a great series 6 - especially if you love sailing in the dark!

This week we had the lightest winds in a while for a Tuesday night, with much of the race spent trying to coax the boats to move at all in calm winds and many boats not making the finish line.  The sunset was exceptional, what a beautiful night.

Congrats to Sunshine for the tie with Crossfire for total number of points in the series, the tiebreaker goes to Joe - a solid competition in A fleet this series for first and second all series long.  Great sailing everyone!

Thanks to Lumme, Fairwind Yacht Club, and the great crew on Sundance for hosting this series.  They went all out to make the courses and the entire series as interesting as possible.  The get together on the Fairwind dock on Tuesday night was really fun and I think I speak for everyone who attended when I say, well done and thank you!

Crossfire will be hosting series 7 - I will post the SI shortly, looks like it is going to be fun!

Just curious, what is the tie breaker calculation.  Both had 2 first, 2 seconds and 1 third.  Total corrected time?
Sunshine.

Schedule A tie breakers for high score races uses the highest number in results,  if that is tied then it goes to the next one.  In this case you both had 6-5-5 so it was the next race down that went 5-4 that gave crossfire the tie break.  Hard for it to be much closer than that.

This took some time to complete, sorry for the delays the combination of waiting on times and my travel schedule made it difficult to get the final numbers in.

Still no information on the J24 that raced, but looks like everyone else is in so I will call these final unless I get more information.  If anyone has information on the J24, boat name etc. let me know.

We will call it 17 boats out in light air, we had a shortened course for all classes.  Remember to monitor channel 71 during the race for updates to the course especially in light air (but this time of the year this is a long course so always pay attention).
