Hi All,

Unfortunately it seems it is no longer going to be possible to organize the races given the current situation.
I was hoping to keep racing and just not meet at the club after, but it seems organizing the RC is no longer possible, and the boat will not be available. Until we get some further information that gives us some more confidence as far as what is reasonable and safe it seems we should error on the side of caution and not give anyone any more reason for getting out and interacting with other people any more than is necessary.

Until something changes and people become more comfortable being in the needed spaces with one another (like on boats) we are not able to handle the administration functions necessary to hold the races.

Sorry for any inconvenience, everyone please stay healthy and stay safe. We will do everything we can to get back to a normal schedule as soon as is possible and seems safe.

No Dinner or Gatherings at PMYC Until Further Notice

Hi All,

Series 0 Race 1 is Cancelled - Small Craft Advisory and Heavy Rain.

I was hoping to have the race in spite of the rain, but since there is a small craft and heavy wind in the forecast as well as the heavy rain even most of the die hard racers are telling me they are not coming out and it looks like the best choice is to just take this as a sign that we should start next week.

Bring a nautically themed gift under $20 (or anything a sailor would appreciate) for the gift exchange!

The tickets for the 2019 VSTNT Holiday party are available now.  The eventbrite tickets are free, they will act as your RSVP.  If you do not have a ticket, feel free to come anyway but there may not be enough food for you.  PLEASE GET A TICKET TO RSVP THEY ARE FREE!  The dinner will be $5 in the basket same as usual on the night of the event.

Holiday Party and Awards Dinner for MDRVMF VSTNT Races 2019.

We will be giving out trophies for all the series for the 2019 season.

We will also be having our famous holiday gift exchange. You must bring a WRAPPED nautically themed gift (or anything sailor would appreciate!), approximate value of $20.00, if you wish to participate.  Bringing a gift is not required to attend, but highly encouraged it is a fun event.

Dinner will be provided, there will be a $5 suggested donation.  The plan is for the cost of providing the dinner to be more than the proceeds from attendees, this is your fleet dues at work.

We had 20 boats out in the final race of the season. All classes raced shortened courses. The wind completely died, and we drifted in on the tide in a very long slow race. We had steak and potatoes and a few crabs here and there for dinner which was well attended. Thanks to everyone for a great season! See you at the holiday party on December 7, more details to follow. We had 27 boats out tonight, the wind was light to start and turned completely off once the fleets got to the shortened course windward marks. We were riding the tide back into the finish in the dark. Most boats finished, all three classes had shortened courses. The stuffed peppers were popular as always.

We had 24 boats out, the B fleet had a shortened course.  The days are getting shorter, so we will likely be finishing past dark, please make sure your navigation lights are working.

I wanted to point out rule 20 often applies to boats that are on the same tack and approaching the line formed by the no sail buoys on either side of the entrance channel.  The sailing instructions specify that this line is a continuing obstruction, and as such a boat approaching the line may hail a boat on the same tack for room to tack, and the boat must respond by either tacking herself immediately, or responding "you tack" and then keeping clear of the boat when she tacks.  Please review rule 20 if you are not familiar with this hailing and tacking protocol as it is quite common to encounter this situation when tacking up the channel.

The NOR allows for all boats that race on Tuesday night to qualify to race in this race, you do not need to be a member of any other club than MDRVMF to qualify (if you are part of another club that is fine, but your MDRVMF membership which was the $20 you paid for the year for Tuesday night qualifies you for this race).  We had some problems with qualification for the last ASMBYC race, but if you are racing on Tuesdays you can race in this race!

We had 27 boats out tonight with steady wind pushing us around the full course. When I wasn't paying attention they swapped the A and B buoys, so the sailing instructions were wrong. We changed the course to start at the A buoy over the radio, and I updated the SIs now, so they are correct. Seems like the new skewed starting line is helping out with the crowds at the pin with the previous starting line. We had fried chicken and the ginger citrus slaw back at PMYC, there was a great turn out and a good time was had.

Here are the SI for series 6.  Sorry for the late posting, was out at the Emerald Bay and did not have good enough Internet access where we were to post these.

The same as Series 0-1 other than moving the pin on the starting line to the A buoy instead of the closest speed buoy, hopefully spreading the fleet across the line.  Please avoid running into each other, we will be disqualifying boats who break rules and create dangerous situations at this starting line.  Please don't run into each other or anyone or anything else.  The finish is still going to be the same as in the first series which is the closest speed buoy.

We had 23 boats out in solid wind with some heavy and difficult swell that slowed us down some. We made it around the full course with everyone coming in just before dark. We had a total of 34 boats get at least a point in this series. Large rib eye steaks were a hit along with the potato bar and Caesar salad. Festivities were well attended and a good time was had by all!
