MDRVF Wiki: About the Races

The Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet has been in existence since the 70s as well as the Tuesday Night Trials Race Series. Some folks ask why we don't change the name of the Fleet as we only have a couple of Ventures and MacGregors. No one has come up with a better name.

Vic started doing the TNT races in 1981 and took over running them in 1985. Three years ago the Fleet named the races after Vic and they became The Vic Smith Tuesday Night Trials. "VSTNT"

We do six series of five races each.

You must join our fleet to enter these races and that will cost $20.00 for you and your associate for a year. The races cost $1.00 per race or $30.00 for the season. We prefer to collect the $30.00 up front, to make bookkeeping easier, but you may pay $5.00 per series if you must.
We start the season with a "Free Series" in March so you can see if it's fun. We change the course each series so you won't get bored. Race trophies are presented at our Holiday Party in December. We've been holding this party at Fu's Palace Restaurant for a number of years now, and hope to continue. You may bring your associate, your crew or other guest and enjoy a full dinner for $5.00 per person. You buy your own booze. The Fleet picks up the balance for the dinner. We also do a fun gift exchange if you care to participate.

We have three race classes. "PHRF Class" with no handicap adjustment. "A Class" for experienced skippers with larger boats. The handicap adjustments are limited to a maximum of 15 seconds per mile per race. "B Class" for smaller boats and new racers. The handicaps adjust much more so everyone has a chance for a "First Place"
