Meeting Notes
2/6/18
Marina del Rey Venture MacGregor Fleet
Mike Diamond called the meeting to order at 6:19 at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club (PMYC). Thanks to Mike McKinsey who, as a member of PMYC arranged for us to meet there. Thanks to Mike D for getting the food for the dinner.
1. The notes from the last meeting were read and approved.
2. The Treasury report was that the fleet has $2002.05 in the bank account. The treasurer also has $205.00 in cash not deposited yet. The cash is from five people paying $5.00 for dinner and six people paying the 2018 fleet dues and two people paying race fees for 30 races. The cost of the chicken etc. for dinner was $43.79 which was charged to the fleet credit card.
3. Race Report. No races yet. We start on March 13 with the beginning of daylight savings time. Mike McKinsey, our race chair, has been doing a lot of work getting ready for the racing season. He has prepared a Notice of Race (the first one for the Vic Smith TNT races) and will put it on the web site (mdrvmf.com). Race Instructions will go out before each of he race series.
4. Business, old and new.
At the election in October, Steve Klitzky and Mike Diamond agreed to be co Commodores for 2018. Mike turned the gavel over to Steve, who ran the meeting. There are two inactive chairs. The Cruise Chair and the Membership Chair. Bob Solliday volunteered to be the Membership chair for 2018. Thanks Bob.
While we are on the subject of membership, fourteen people have paid their fleet dues for 2018. I expect that more will join after the racing gets started.
Now, some important things. Mike McKinsey has become an official race officer for US Sailing. He proposed that the fleet join US Sailing for a yearly fee of $200. By doing so we will be able to publicize our races on the US Sailing calendar and will have insurance to cover the race committees for the races if a problem comes up. A vote was called for and it was passed that we join.
Mike is a member of PMYC and has arranged for our meetings there. The Commodore of PMYC has suggested to Mike that we have our Tuesday after race get together at PMYC. This would be instead of at the Shack. We can bring in our own food and order drinks at their bar. Mike said he is willing to do the food and charge for whatever it costs (PMYC has a full kitchen and BBQ’s). Steve called for a vote and it was passed.
Mike briefly discussed the handicap system for next year. The adjustment to handicaps will be different this year for the A and B classes. He is working on the details and will explain them to the fleet when he is finished. The goal is to make it as fair as possible and allow every one to have a chance to trophy.
5. Meeting was adjourned at 7:06.
